UX is the term used to describe the interaction between users and a site, while SEO is about search engine rankings. While designing your website it’s important to be mindful of both so visitors have a great experience on your site and it ranks well with search engines!
What is Google’s role in User Experience and SEO?
The connection between UX and SEO is the keywords that are associated with your website, which are used to influence rankings with search engines. The more relevant these keywords are, the better they will be for both your user experience and your rankings with search engines.
How does Google play a role in UX?
Google has many factors when ranking websites, but their most important factor is user experience. If they see that there are high bounce rates, low click-through rates, etc., they will not rank your website very highly. This can be an issue for users looking for websites that have done their SEO well, so Google made it easier to determine if a site is reputable or not by giving them their TrustRank algorithm.
What does TrustRank mean?
TrustRank was created by Google in 2012, and it analyzes links to your website and links from your website to determine how reputable you are as a company/website. The more trustworthy links, the better chance of ranking on page one of search engines like Google. A way to find out what your TrustRank score is would be to search “<domain name>” TrustRank on Google.
If your website has no links pointing to it at all, you won’t have a TrustRank score because there is no way for your site to be verified by Google. One of the main reasons websites don’t have any links is because they are not reputable companies. Other factors go into SEO beyond just having high-quality content, but this goes to show that having real TrustRank from real sites linking back to you is crucial to being successful in search engine optimization.
What about UX?
Having a great user experience starts with good design and how the website responds when someone clicks on something or types in information. If you’re using bad fonts, visuals are too distracting, etc., users may get frustrated or exit your site.
One of the ways to tell if a user is satisfied with your website’s UX is by using Google Analytics. This will show you how long they have been on the site, how many pages they viewed, bounce rate (how often someone leaves after viewing just one page), percentage of new visits/ total visits, and much more.

What is Bounce Rate?
When people are engaging with your site, they leave because it isn’t relevant to what they were looking for-this means they have bounced off the page. It’s important to keep bounce rates low because if Google sees that your site gets a lot of bounces and very few page views, you’re going to rank lower than relevant websites.
What is the click-through rate?
The click-through rate is how often people click on links within your website or type in a URL to visit your site. If you happen to have an exit popup (the thing that pops up when someone is trying to go off your site), it may raise your CTR slightly, but this isn’t good for UX so it’s important not to use them at all! However, having popups can help improve conversions which brings me to my next point…
How does Better User Experience lead to more?
There are many ways a bad UX hurts your website, but here are a few:
-Bounce Rate – Users who bounce off the page because it’s too slow, not relevant to what they were looking for, or because of popups.
-Conversions- If users have a good experience on your site and the information is easy to find, they’re going to be more likely to buy from you. The easier it is for them, the more likely they are to want to use you again in the future!
The connection between SEO and UX isn’t clear-cut because there are so many different factors that go into both fields. Even though Google has TrustRank and other metrics where website owners can see how trustworthy their sites look through links pointing to them, there are many factors to keep in mind when considering whether or not your design is easily accessible and user-friendly.
